Voluntary Sector Experience and Training.
As well as counselling training I have substantial experience of working in the voluntary sector.. Between 1992 and 2000 I worked as a volunteer for Avon Probation service, Julian House and Social Services. Between 2000 and 2001 I worked as a creative writing tutor with The Big Issue Foundation and ran writing workshops at Winford Manor Retreat Centre. I have also taught drama at Badminton School, Chew Valley secondary school and Hickory House Nursery. In the past I did paid teaching work for The Creative Learning Agency.
In August 2001 I successfully completed an eight week volunteer induction course at Bath Area Drugs Advisory Service (BADAS). The course covered all aspects of harm reduction procedures, drug use, health and legal issues. From August until December 2001 I worked as a volunteer one to one worker, worked in the needle and syringe exchange and with a homeless outreach worker.
Work based Training and Experience.
In December 2001 I started work with the Wiltshire Drug Treatment Testing Order Team
(DTTO) gaining valuable experience of working as part of multi-
I am passionately interested in creativity. I have been a singer, published and prize winning short story writer, a professional story teller (a country wide tour funded by the English Arts Council), a performance artist and performed playwright with Theatre West and The Bristol Old Vic. I believe in journal writing for therapeutic purposes and would encourage you to write down your dreams and feelings.
I would also add that I have a wide experience of life. I have worked in restaurants, as a taxi driver, a teacher and factory worker.
My approach is basically humanistic and person centred and I draw on whatever theory I feel is appropriate for an individual at a particular time. Each person is different and may need different ideas at different times. I am interested in Buddhist philosophy and mindfulness, strive to be present in my whole being for each person who comes to see me and try to unlock the secrets of healing within them through a relationship based on trust, truth warmth and intimacy.
